COMPULSIVE EATING IS DANGEROUS

Well, are you a compulsive eater?

Do you keep on chewing something or the other all the time?

Does your palate force you to gobble down whatever delicacy you smell or see?

Do you find really tough to control your mind when it comes to eating?

If the answer to even one of these questions is in the positive, you are a compulsive eater!

Mind you, compulsive eating is precarious, to say the least!

COMPULSIVE EATING IS ADDICTIVE

It has been also proved that just like drugs or any alcoholic drink or strong medication that affect the hypothalamus region of the brain, so also food can become doubly addictive.

That explains the reason why we are drawn to certain food just like bees are drawn to honey.

WHY IS COMPULSIVE EATING DANGEROUS THAN AIDS?

Compulsive eating is dangerous than AIDS! This is so because, one can still survive with AIDS or even after knowing that one is HIV positive. But, compulsive eating is a syndrome whereby the body fails to understand what to consume and what not to! As a consequence thereof, the person rushes to the counter to have all types of food!

But, modern day lifestyle is revolving around junk food that emanates mouth-watering aroma with dangerous ramifications! All the junk or fast food have a surfeit of calories and fats that are bad for the body! Still, you can’t control your body from NOT HAVING them.

The more you gobble all these high-calorie meals, the more the harm you’re doing to your body. The unsaturated fat in which the fast food is prepared is getting into your body. What is more, you are polluting your body!

WHY ARE JUNK/FAST FOOD DANGEROUS?

Know for sure that fats when kept on stored and again cooked turn poisonous as the re-cooked oil undergoes a chemical change that possesses elements adverse to our physique! Such unsaturated oil increase cholesterol content in our bodies. This cholesterol blocks the arteries – the pipelines that transport oxygenated blood to different parts of the body and also the cells!

Once blocked, the arteries will fail to provide the lifeline to the vital organs of the body. This will obviously cause physically debilitating diseases like those of the heart (artery coronary), pancreas, gall bladder, insulin, and even the weight-supporting joints.

You can imagine what will happen if you keep on supplying all forms of cholesterol daily to your body. The body will revolt. The bad fats that you’re supplying will get deposited in the vulnerable portions of your body.

In males, such fats are deposited in the tummy, chin, both side of the waist and even in the cheeks. In females, they are deposited not just in the tummy portion and cheeks, but also in the chin, triceps region (above the arm-pits and on the back areas of the arms. These portions along with the joints that may be there turn really vulnerable to the strikes of the debilitating ailments.

STRATEGIES TO CONTROL COMPULSIVE EATING

The habit of compulsive eating begins from childhood, courtesy: the doting parents and the modern-day lifestyle (please check the section of obesity and kids above).

So, the strategy is to begin from that stage. Parents cannot have any excuses! They must ensure that the brunch (breakfast plus lunch) at home or at the morning meal at the creches are nourishing.

Secondly, all steps must be taken to NOT give the children fatty food items like chocolates (they destroy the milk teeth!) as well as any fried or deep fried food items which are quite high in calories and cholesterol.

The children must be made to have lots of fresh vegetables and fruits besides a judicious combination of food items leading to a wholesome diet having the right content of calories.

The parents must spare time for their children at least once during the day or in the weekends.

WHEN SHOULD WE GO FOR SURGERY OR MEDICATIONS?

Surgery should be resorted to as the last option and when the other natural means fail to deliver the goods. Medications should be taken only with the expert opinion of physicians.

There are diverse opinions about the efficacy of surgery. One group of physicians feels that surgery is the best means to resolve morbid obesity.
